UK: Liverpool
Summer 2004: SAS, Radisson SAS Hotel.
Lived here part-time for 10 months, 2005-2006.
Summer 2006: SAS, Holiday Inn
Radisson SAS is a winner, all over. Radisson SAS Liverpool is well known for it's decor and style. You just have to stay here! I never tried the SPA or swimmingpool, I regret it... :) The only downside with this hotel is that it's 10 minutes to walk to the city center and it's a very boring walk...
Holiday Inn is in the middle of city center. It's a three star hotel, but I found it ok. We didn't have breakfast in the rate we got, so I don't know about the breakfast. There are lots of cafes and restaurants very close, and Tesco is just around the corner too.
Liverpool is not a very nice city, but it has charm. The dialect? Hahaha, it took me some time to understand it. Liverppool was not a place for shopping when I lived there, but when we moved there were lots of new shops opening.
If you want to shop in Liverpool you have to take the bus to Cheshire Oaks, the outletvillage, only 40 min. outside Liverpool. It's HEAVEN! They have everything there. It's last seasons, but it's about 50-70% off! They have Burberry (one of my favorite), Mexx (another favorite), Next, Polo, Villeroy and Boch, Denby, Godiva chocolate, Triumph, etc.. HAPPY SHOPPING!
And of course, Liverpool had/have THE BEATLES. Actually, we lived very close to Penny Lane! The Beatles museum and Tate are at the Albert Dock, where you also can find designer shops (furnitures) and nice cafes/restaurant.
I can highly recommend one restaurant in Liverpool: The London Carriage Works. It's in Hope street. It's very popular so you have to book in advance. There is a nice hotel connected to the restaurant, Hope Street Hotel. I have never stayed there, but it looked very nice.
